Let’s Talk Lube (Yes, Really)

Lubricant has been given an unfair reputation.

Too often, it’s presented as something you use only when there’s a “problem.” Dryness. Age. A body that isn’t “performing.” At La CLIT, we see it differently. Lube is not a backup plan: it’s a pleasure amplifier. A comfort creator. A way to reduce friction and increase sensation, intentionally.

When we launched La CLIT a year and a half ago, we first had to dismantle our own internalized stereotypes about lubricants. Then we started studying and discovered a lot. We learned that there are different types of lubes, each with a specific purpose. That some ingredients are to be avoided and that not all lubricants are designed for internal use or are even safe for it.

So here’s what you need to know.

First thing: there are 3 main types of lube

  1. Water-Based is light, versatile, easy to wash off and compatible with condoms and pleasure toys. Since skin absorbs water, it may require reapplication during longer sessions.

  2. Silicone-Based is ultra-silky and long-lasting, perfect for extended intimacy or shower adventures. Not compatible with silicone toys but amazing with glass toys.

  3. Oil-Based is rich and nourishing and ideal for massages. Not compatible with condoms and generally better suited for external use.

Second thing to remember: because of persistent taboos, sexual wellness products still fall into regulatory grey areas. This means irritating ingredients can easily appear in lubes sold in pharmacies or supermarkets or online. Ingredients that should be avoided and alter vulvar PH include: high concentrations of glycerin; alcohol; artificial fragrances; and certain preservatives.

That’s why we carefully curate what LA CLIT offers. We select only 100% body-safe pleasure products made by brands aligned with our values including women-led companies, attention to sustainability, and made in Italy or Europe whenever possible.

Two of our lubricants, Sex au Naturel (water-based) and Uberlube (silicone-based) are classified as medical devices. This means they meet stricter standards: their ingredients, safety, and manufacturing processes are assessed under medical device regulations and they are designed specifically for intimate internal use.

Sex Au Naturel,
created by 2 Spanish women, combines Aloe vera, and hyaluronic acid for deep hydration and comfort.

Uberlube, a Chicago-based family business, delivers long-lasting, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic silkiiness with a minimalist formula.

Our third lube, Le Couple Gourmand, is a 100% natural oil-based lubricant, made in France with organic hazelnuts, it's edible and activates the sense of smell and taste, making it a perfect companion for connection and pleasure!

Our main takeaway?

Lube isn’t about fixing something broken. It’s about choosing comfort, safety, and pleasure consciously.
