TEMPERANCE - Erotic Tarot

🌊 In the Tarot de Marseille (image below), Temperance shows a winged figure pouring liquid between two vessels. It's a continuous flow, a passage from one to the other.

Temperance isn't about standing still in perfect balance, it's about mixing, connecting, adjusting. The card reminds us that finding our measure doesn't mean staying centered; it means recognizing when we need to add more, remove something, slow down, or give space to what matters.

🍷 In Sofie Birkin's Erotic Tarot (image above), this gesture moves into relationship. Instead of a solitary figure, we see two mature people gazing at each other. One pours wine; two glasses wait on the table. The pouring becomes shared. Water turns to wine: desire, pleasure, sensuality, the senses.

Temperance, then, isn't about denying desire. It's about finding the way and measure to live it.

What makes this version essential: these two aren't young. Bodies change. So do needs, pleasures, rhythms, the way we relate. Temperance invites us not to cling to one formula. What felt right yesterday might need renegotiation today.

✨ What the card teaches Balance isn't something we find once and keep forever. It's a practice of listening and adjusting. Temperance shows us how to hold different needs together: not erasing one for another, but finding a form that welcomes them all.

🔎 Reflect

  • Where do you feel there's too much or too little right now?
  • Which different needs are you trying to hold at once?
  • What could you shift concretely to find a measure that fits who you are today?
