Marseille Tarot & Sofie Birkin’s Erotic Tarot
In the Marseille Tarot, below, The Lovers present a scene of choice and pact. Three figures are in relationship with one another, while an angel above releases an arrow: a gesture that seals, acknowledges, and makes visible what is taking place.
The gazes are direct, the bodies fully present.
There is no hesitation here: there is an act taking shape, witnessed and recognized.
This card speaks of a bond that is chosen, declared, and affirmed.
In Sofie Birkin’s Erotic Tarot, above, this structure becomes more focused.
The collective scene disappears, leaving the duo.
The choice is no longer observed from the outside, but embodied through the bodies.
Birkin shows two people choosing each other through their differences:
non-conforming bodies, visible marks, real complementarity.
The landscape echoes the Marseille background,
but now it becomes the space where the relationship affirms itself without mediation.
The Lovers thus become a card of mutual choice,
